[Thursday, 27th August – Getting up at 05:00 – mediocre sunrise – incredible cold – the wrapped-up Englishwomen – coffee – descending from the Rigi [mountain massif], joking all the way down – magnificent romantic path – the “cold bath” [= settlement of Kaltbad] (1) – view of Wäggis [sic] and Lake Lucerne – the French tourist party – Wäggis [sic] (2) – ride over Lake Lucerne to Lucerne together with the Germans – feeling good – the grumpy Pilatus [mountain massif] – [the] Rigi [mountain massif] – more mountains in the further distance – Mosen – polite conversations

– 27th August – friendly small Italian-like town – taking a bath – good lunch – Armoury – Pfyfer’s [sic] Panorama (6) – inn – walk – very dead streets – the Lion of Lucerne (4), noble and melancholy – purchase of the Panorama – in all four winds – magnificent panorama – feeling tired – evening bit – the beautiful Solothurn woman – red wine and blissful sleep]
